SINGAPORE (September 19, 2017) — BLH Aqua Technology Inc., producer of water efficiency enhancement technologies such as Aqutonix, won the first prize at Slush Singapore’s startup pitch competition. Aside from being chosen as the top startup pitch out of 500 other startups from 40 countries who applied, BLH Aqua Technology will also represent Singapore in the Startup World Cup for 2018 in Silicon Valley where they will compete for the one million dollar prize from Fenox Venture Capital.
Slush Singapore was a kickoff to the “World Domination Tour” which will culminate in Slush’s home country of Finland at Slush Helsinki later this year. Slush Singapore featured many unique and promising enterprises with nine from the Top 30 being selected for partner prizes from corporate partners like Telenor and Philips. The first day of Slush Singapore started with the Top 45 contestants pitching twice to two panels of judges in order to make the Top 30 and move on to the big stages at the main conference day. The Top 30 were all eligible for partner prizes, but only 10 could move on to the final stage to compete for the grand prize and a trip to Silicon Valley. When it was all said and done, BLH Aqua Technology walked away with the top prize for having a viable solution to major global issues.
While this is not BLH Aqua Technology’s first pitch competition grand prize win, it was their first in the ASEAN region, a crucial market for water efficiency and the agriculture industry.
BLH Aqua Technology’s pitch focused on a few key challenges facing the world and tried to clearly explain how Aqutonix can meet these issues head-on. For instance, the introduction of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and GMOs brought significant change to the agriculture industry. However, we are all aware of the issues and risks associated with these products, such as water and land contamination. In addition, the ever-increasing world population is already limiting the amount of food, water, and land resources available. With BLH Aqua technology’s breakthrough technology, Aqutonix is attempting to meet these needs by using water more efficiently and decreasing the water waste as well as the amount of fertilizer and pesticides needed, while at the same time increasing the growth, germination, and yield of the crops – all without any additives or chemicals.
In addition to the positive environmental impact, Aqutonix aims to empower farmers to increase their profits while decreasing their operating costs, with a business plan that aims to see a return on investment ideally in the first year of use. BLH believes that Aqutonix can and will become necessary farming equipment, used around the world in various ecological and socio-economic farming communities with the same positive effect.
